Middle School Drama (6th-8th)

Description: Middle School Drama is a “doing” class. There will be drama games and improv
scenes during each class session to give the students more experience on stage. They will review basic acting techniques and stage terminology, and work on some scripted scenes.

There is no textbook, but the students will be expected to take notes and keep all handouts. Returning students are encouraged, and new students will be welcomed.

*This class can be taken 1 or 2 semesters.

Description: We’ll learn the basics of language and reading through picture books, simple crafts and activities. Beginning with the most common phonemes, we’ll learn the sounds they make and the letters associated with them. Then we’ll begin to read by stringing these phonemes together!

Description: A basic introduction to Spanish vocabulary. We will loosely follow the Song School Spanish curriculum. There is a short weekly instructor video to watch to go along with worksheets. We will sing songs, listen to books in English then Spanish, watch movies in Spanish with English subtitles and play various games that incorporate that week’s vocabulary words. Not required but available to purchase online is the cd of the curriculums songs they will be singing each week that reinforces the vocabulary words.

Description: Kids will learn and explore American history and values through picture books and other activities ranging from American songs, Famous American texts, geography, arts & crafts, re-enactments, and more.

Comm 101: Understanding & Being Understood (4th-6th)

Description: This class will cover communication skills and practices that are useful for everybody! We’ll discuss what communication is and how to do it well. Class time will include some lecture, videos or skits to illustrate the point, role play to practice our skills, and in-class or short homework assignments (10-15 min) to solidify what we’re learning. (Assignments can be written or audio recorded.) Topics include but are not limited to understanding verbal and nonverbal cues, situational awareness, turn-taking in conversation, communication faux pats, effective listening and handling conflict.

Description: Your child will practice drawing basic shapes, lines, etc. In each class period we will walk through step by step instructions on how to draw various animals, vehicles, and objects. (This class is not for those who struggle with sitting and have short attention span.)
