**CLOSED** Essay Writing 101 (8th-12th)
Teacher: Juliana Williams
Description: Join us in breaking down the steps of a classic persuasive essay. Learn how to examine key facts and form your own position, write a thesis statement, and create an outline. We will cover how to grab the reader’s attention with an exordium and how to wrap up the argument with a concluding amplification. This class will explore basic grammar and various ways to dress up your writing. This class is perfect for the student who has little experience with essay writing. Each step will be broken down and grading will be based on very specific criteria learned in class. We will write four essays throughout the semester with weekly homework building up to each essay.
Each class will begin with Balance, Auditory, and Vision exercises (Bal-a-vis-x), used to engage student’s left and right brain through rhythmic ball and bean bag activities. Enjoyable and beneficial at any age.
This class can be used for partial credit towards your student’s English Language Arts credit. Pair with literature assignments, public speaking, or additional writing and grammar to complete the credit. Grades will be given to all students.
